Goodwill Fashion Show Promotes Organization's Jobs Mission - WFSU

A unique sort of fashion show was part of Saturday's What Women Want expo at the North Florida Fairgrounds. The show featured the great looks that can be achieved for just pennies on the dollar.
The What Women Want expo consisted of dozens of product and services booths, along with a real fashion show runway. And this show climaxed with a bridal gown showing. But this particular gown didn't come from a hi-end bridal boutique, but instead a Tallahassee Goodwill store.

"Dresses like this can be purchased at Goodwill for anywhere from $20 to $100. This dress values new at about $1,200," Vice President of Communication Kim Gay, the presentation's MC, explained.

But Goodwill Board Chair Mary Wellington, who was also one of the runway models, said this wasn't only about how to look good at bargain prices.
"The whole idea of this is to let the community know that Goodwill has great finds and it supports their mission, which is basically having and giving jobs to deserving people who often can't find employment other places."

Several of the fashion show models were successful graduates of the Capital Area Community Action Agency's Getting Ahead Program.
