Black Fashion Week MN and MN African American Heritage Museum partner for pop-up exhibit - MSR News Online

Black Fashion Week MN and the Minnesota African American Heritage Museum and Gallery (MAAHMG) are collaborating to present a pop-up exhibit and fashion show during Black Fashion Week MN.

The two-day pop-up exhibit titled “BLCK STYLE,” will be held on May 28 from 1 pm to 5 pm and May 29 from 10 am to 4 pm at the Minnesota African American Heritage Museum and Gallery.

The exhibit will showcase clothing from local emerging designers Troe Williams of Vandalism Designs;
Alexis Brazil of The Lexurie Collection; Kendall Ray of KD Designs; and Rammy Mohamed of
Ramadhan Designs. The exhibit will also feature the history of some iconic Black fashion
designers from Ann Lowe to Dapper Dan; ROX Jewelry by Robyne Robinson, jewelry designer,
arts consultant and former tv anchor; photographs by Charles Chamblis from Twin Cities fashion shows popular in the 1980s and a few items from the legendary style trendsetter Prince.

The exhibit is curated by Tina Burnside, Co-founder, and curator at MAAHMG; Natalie Morrow,
CEO and founder at Black Fashion Week MN; and Hannah Novillo Erickson, 3D Objects
Associate Curator at the Minnesota Historical Society (MNHS).

The fashion show will be held on May 29 from 3 – 6 pm, outdoor on the rooftop patio at the
museum. There is a cost for the fashion show and tickets ranging from $30 – 50 can be purchased
online at Eventbrite.

COVID procedures and social distancing will be in place for both the exhibit and fashion show.
Black Fashion Week MN runs May 21 – May 29, 2021. Other events include: May 21 Refresh Mixer; May 22 Model Calls 101 workshop and Karl Kani Fashion Show; May 25 Revolution of Fashion, fashion show; May 28 Black Man Magic Fashion Show.
