Americans are in a deskside state of mind, gravitating toward tailored work clothes as they return to the office, snapping up suits alongside resort wear as they plan summer vacations.
The consumer shift in March started as Irvine Spectrum retailers like Nordstrom, Loft, Anthropologie and H&M began replenishing their unique collections of back-to-work wardrobe staples.
So, what does back-to-biz look like? For women, it’s all about embracing tailored jackets with trending romantic tops to sweeten up skirts, high-waisted pants and jeans. And for the men, it’s suit up and show up, with luxury sunglasses as the accessory du jour.
According to Nordstrom’s managing fashion editor, Kate Bellman, spring runway style for women can easily translate to the conference room.
“The romantic trend is perfect for adding whimsy to work attire,” Bellman says. “It’s all about billowing sleeves, voluminous silhouettes, new neckline details and made-to-be-seen floral prints. The statement tops pair so perfectly to straight-leg denim or the smart trouser.”
And for him, the minimalism trend has forward momentum, as, by nature, it is polished and grounded in a refined palette, Bellman says. “The overall key essentials that fit into his everyday wardrobe.”
For big-ticket items, it’s all about class over flash, according to Bellman. “Elevated essentials, such as the classic white shirt, luxe cashmere sweater and refined loafer allow us to feel polished and relevant.”
In other words, dress like you mean it. At long last, we get to impress our coworkers.
