Los Angeles, US, Nov 23 (EFE).- Following Lady Gaga’s spectacular film debut in A Star is Born, the American pop icon has taken to the big screen again with Ridley Scott’s movie about a high fashion murder with House of Gucci.
The film is based on a true story that took the fashion world by storm in the mid-1990s when Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga) was convicted of ordering the execution of her ex-husband Maurizio Gucci (Adam Driver), grandson of Guccio Gucci, founder of the iconic fashion brand.
At a star-studded press conference with the movie’s director and cast, including Al Pacino, Jeremy Irons, Salma Hayek and Jared Leto, Gaga told reporters the team had made art:
“We made art out of pain,” the actor added.
The glamorous movie, which recounts the events that led up to Maurizio’s murder on 27 March 1995 in Milan, Italy, tries to unravel the motives behind the crime that shocked the Mediterranean country.
“I remember driving by (the location where Maurizio was killed) and I felt that pit drop in my stomach because I was so in my character and I thought what have I done?” Gaga mused.
The actor explained how her method meant she got so immersed in her character it was difficult to divorce her.
“I’d be completely immersed in something, I’d be completely tortured, I would be completely so inside of the scene that I was so lost in what felt like a real truth and a real reality for me and he (Scott) said to me: You have to leave this part of yourself behind.”
When asked why she thought Patrizia paid a hitman to kill her husband Gaga said: “I was sure that, because when they married their family had turned their back on him, that she did not marry him for his money. I don’t believe that’s why she had him murdered either.”
Patrizia, Gaga continued, got away with a lot for a long time “until the illusion of her ability to matter in this family was shattered.”
“As an Italian American I would never insert myself in business with a bunch of Italian men, I think this was a terrible idea on her part but she really tried and the joke was really on her.”
High fashion and Lady Gaga go hand in hand and House of Gucci is a feast for the eyes in the fashion and make-up department.
The crew took painstaking measures to ensure continuity between shots and an impeccable wardrobe.
“My trailer was like a science lab,” Gaga recalled.
But, the performer continued, “the clothes should never be a distraction, the clothes should be a part of the human being that you’re playing.”
“It’s the nuance between an imitation of somebody and a becoming of someone. It was important to me that it didn’t read as fashion but that it read as a real woman.”
During the presser, the entire cast lauded Scott for his “spectacular” directorial skills.
“He is an architect, he is a visionary,” Gaga said.
“As a woman on set I always felt so empowered to speak my mind and I always felt that you cared and that you upheld the perspective of women because Patrizia is a woman and is in a world of men,” Gaga continued.
