Kate Hudson Loves Fashion as Much as You Do - Vogue

In September, Hudson headed to the Venice International Film Festival to promote Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon, the third feature from A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night director Ana Lily Amirpour. Despite a full schedule of interviews and photo calls, Hudson turned out some of her best looks to date. “These recent red carpets have been great, some of my favorite dresses that I’ve worn in a long time,” she says. “At Venice, my red Valentino was so special; every once in a while, you get a gown you could wear 24/7; you just don’t ever want to take it off.”

That sense of connection to the garment itself is what Hudson looks for when shopping for shoes, too. Always on the go—in addition to acting, running a brand, hosting a podcast with her brother Oliver, and launching a line of holistic supplements, she’s the proud mom of three school-age kids—she has no patience for painful heels. “Comfort is essential. Shoes can be gorgeous, but if I know they’re going to be a disaster an hour after I put them on, I won’t bother,” says Hudson. “If I can’t have a good time in what I’m wearing, I take it off immediately.”

As she’s front and center in a luxury campaign and praised for her style, one might think that Hudson is the fashion expert in her family—but not so. “My daughter wears whatever she wants, and it’s out of this world,” says Hudson. “She’s way cooler than I am, and I’m so excited to see how she evolves. As a kid, I was very much like her, so expressive with fashion.” Currently embracing bold color and embellishment 3-year-old, Rani Rose, is also one step ahead of the style curve. Clearly, however, she learned from the best. “Yesterday she came down in a velvet ice skater look with long sleeves, hot pink boots, a trucker hat with rainbows, and heart-shaped sunglasses,” says Hudson. “I saw her, looked at my fiancé, and said, ‘I think I need to change my outfit.’ ”
