The red dress looks like a Madame Grès–style gown to me.It’s probably the most nonabstract of all of them. It’s a very clear nod to the classic as well, very Grecian, and where my inherent interests in drapery came from—very Grecian goddess-y and related to the body.

Overall the sculptures are very lush, almost rococo.
Or baroque. I can never get done with baroque.

Can they withstand the weather, being made of fabric?
Not at all. It’s completely ridiculous and part of the massive anxiety [I had] pre-exhibition because the folds would collapse in rain. I started working with them inside, but then they grew, and they became too big [for the space]. So I took them out and was working with them outside on the farm, and suddenly they started to interact with the wind and the environment. And they started to move: You could move around them 360 degrees, and they moved kind of independently. So I wanted to show them outside.
